Hi everyone,
I'm going to be starting a 20 long AIO frag tank. DIYing the AIO part. It's going to be my coral and invert QT. I want it to look like a nano system though, it'll have a permanent resident cleaner shrimp and maybe some other fun inverts I might find to make it permanently action filled. I plan to have a rock or two but I want to have a wide area of sand as well and I want to make sure I'll have enough biological filtration. So I'm not sure if a few rocks in there will be enough and I considered adding some bio balls, ceramic rings, something of that sort to the AIO section to make up for lost rock space.
What do you think? Is it necessary?

The rocks will be enough. I have a 15 gallon long frag tank with two clowns and a green choris wrasse (although, if I could catch the wrasse, I would pull him out). Anyway, there are a few small rocks for the corals to grow onto (largely a zoa and mushroom tank), with one large rock.

What I would recommend is a small powerhead and an air stone. I have found the higher gas exchange to be better for the corals - the fish are fine with just the water surface rippling a bit.

Decorate the tank with enough live rock and you’ll be fine. You only need the return and maybe a small head if the species dictate. Same with Light. 100 par in the middle of the bed.

Make it pretty and cool.

Keep in mind. A qt will be nuked by design. Intercepter , flatworm Exit, dino x , Vibrant , peroxide etc.
Anything besides corals will be effected. Snails and crabs my need to be pulled too. It’s kinda good to keep count.

Good to know, I'll make sure that I get lots of water breaking the surface.

I didn't really take much of that into consideration, I planned to do dips upon receiving the coral and before it went in the tank possibly. I'll make sure that anything that goes in there will be able to be easily pulled out if need be thanks for the heads up! I've been counting the snails in my fishy QT that's in there to help cut down on ammonia but will all be pulled before treatment but never would have considered the same for a coral QT.

No worries. It what we do here.
The first time you see a spider. You know it’s a spider. Then it all makes sense.
Then you change your shorts.

Yea, qt it there to kill any bad thing befor it gets into the DT. At the same time , you may also see cool stuff like hitchhikers and decide to keep em.

It’s like a danger nano.
