So I got a used 20 gallon long yesterday and was thinking that it would be a perfect frag/quarantine tank. I plan on just doing a observation quarantine. My question is, for frags, should I try to drill it and add a sump or would a hob work ok. Also, does anyone have experience with a particular light on a similar size frag tank? It's about 30x12x12". Thanks

Hob will work fine for a frag tank if no room to add a sump.

Re.lights - if keeping sps, your frag tank should have as similar lights to your DT as feasible.

So I am looking at the corallife dual bulb t5 on Amazon. Do you guys think that the 2 bulbs will be enough on this size for frags? Also, what type bulb should I use for best results with mostly softies and lps and maybe a few sps??

That 2 bulb fixture would be fine for soft and lower light LPS, but I'm not sure it would push enough for most SPS frags.

Plus that 24" fixture won't sit on your 30" tank unless you hang it somehow. They do (or did) have a 30" fixture that fits 24" bulbs.

I think for $25 more you could get one of the LED china black boxes.... that would serve all you needs much better... JMO .. Dave

Depends a bit on the purpose, Mine is a nursery for frags destined for the display or for pruning from large colonies. As such, I try to have the same lights as my display.

What size is your display and what lighting are you running over it?
I'm currently running a 55 with ocean revives but will be upgrading shortly to a 120 and planning to possibly upgrade the light to a t5 aquatic life hybrid with 2 reefled 90s.

Yeah, I just started a 20l frag tank as well. My DT has 2 AI hydra 26 HDs so I went with an AI prime so I could match spectrum and photo/ramp periods to my DT. Wasnt excited about the cost but figured I'd rather just do it once rather than upgrading later
