Frag tank lighting

hey guys, I'm currently setting up a low boy frag tank. It's going to be about 100 gal system. I wanted to put an ati fixture over it and was wondering if to go with a 4 or 6 bulb. The low boy is 10 inches tall and think a 6 bulb might be an overkill. Also at what height should I hang the lights and any bulb combinations you guys recommend for good growth. Thanks in advance!

4 bulb will be enough but if you use a six bulb you will have more options on color bulbs. I keep mine about 16" above.

I'm guessing low boy is a name brand? I couldn't really find much googling it.

It depends on the dimensions of the tank. You can see what spread you get with a 4 bulb. One thing to think about, if the tank is 48" & a 4 bulb doesn't cut it, you could go with a 6 bulb 36" fixture.

That's the tank. It's 48"x 24"x10".

I think a 4 bulb would be enough spread, I can always higher up the fixture

I am suppose to get mine Tom. I am gonna run 2 kessil 160's on it and see how it does . Maybe we can compare notes along the way .

I just setup a low boy and went with an 8buln because the tank is 24" deep. I am growing sps in it so I went with a lot of light and hung the fixture 15" above the water

You mean 24"wide it's only 10 " deep lol .

Same, I want to grow sps in it as well. I ended up going with a 6 bulb ati fixture cuz it was on sale on marine depot. What bulb combo did you go with?

I also want to mention if you plan to fill the tank up close to the top edge like I did, check the top corners where the silicone is because mine didn't go to the edge on any of the corners and it was leaking slowly. I had to drain it and add some silicone.

Mine isn't up to the top, I drilled the tank and installed an overflow. Posted a pic of my build, would like to see how you guys set yours up!

I have been trying to find that lowboy in Miami. Where did you get them?? any suggestions for leds??

Try to talk to your lfs. They will have to order it . Just watch the prices and don't let them over price it .

I have asked all of the stores around me. The only one who seemed willing was the reptile store and wanted to charge me $250. I thought it was going for around $100.
