I’m replacing my frag tank with a larger 50 gallon lowboy 24” x 48”. I have a black box over my existing frag tank (24” x 24” ) that works well but won’t cover the length of the new tank. I’ll be using the black box to light one half but need another light for the other half and want to try something other than another black box. I’m considering an AI prime and would like to know what everyone thinks of this light or any others that would work well. The plan is to have one side for lower light corals one side for sps.
Thanks!
Adam

Prime would be a good light, but you'd probably be better off with a 26/32. You'll have plenty of light to spare, and keep your lower light corals around the edge of the tank.

I have the same tank, but went with 2 xr30.

Thanks! What is a 26/32?

I don't think it would be overkill at all since you can adjust the intensity on the light. The Hydra will cover 24x24 at a better rate than a Prime will. You will not have to worry about upgrading you light if you decide to go with corals that will require more par.

Its like the rule measure twice cut one.... Don't buy an underpowered light now, when you know your gonna upgrade in the future.

Before it went south. I opted for the xr30 since i knew I was going to go SPS dominate in the frag tank, but still enough room for LPS as well.

Awesome, thank you!

Just make sure to update your post, or better yet get a tank build thread going. We all love seeing tanks in progress!

I would just buy another black box.
That way your tank has the same light.
Blue light is different from one light to another.
So is spectrum. Two black boxes will definitely cover that tank.

The black box I have over the frag tank I really like and so do the corals, unfortunately it’s not made anymore. I have viperspectra boxes over my display, they work but the color isn’t great.

That’s what is over my display, I have a galaxy hydro over my current frag tank. Light spectrum is completely different, the galaxy does a much better job.

Picked up a hydra 26, I’ll update once everything is up and running. Thanks again for for the help from everyone.
