Thinking of starting a frag tank. Other than flow, heater and lighting. What type of filter is required- live rock? Protein skimmer? Just planning on suppling enough nutrients for the coral to thrive

hi welcome to the reef going to love it here!!
lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun...
i would say both live rock and skimmer, treat as normal
reef,only, a little better,for fresh frags :)

I have kicked around the idea of a frag tank, and I would say the same go's for a DT as a frag tank. Its about stability in the tank. The question is what is needed for stability. Live rock is always a plus.

Definitely stability, I was just curious with a small or maybe no bioload how important nutrient reduction/management would be. Thought of going fishless but would still need some level of nitrate/phosphate for coral growth, hence my question

Ahh, I would put a few fish in the tank, maybe a few chromis or something. I have dosed N03 and P04 before, but I feel the real deal, aka fish poop, is better. If you go with only a few fish then water changes may do the job by itself. If you plan on having sps then you may need to use a mechanical option with fish.
