Hi guys, I need your advise.
I decided to start frag tank, mostly for SPS - but in the future I deffo intend to grow out torches and zoas. Now got stuck on the size selection.
In general I restricted by 80-90G of entire water volume in the system. It's because of insurance reason, my landlord doesn't allow me to keep a lot of water in the rooms.
So the potential choice is: 48x24x12 tank or 2 units of 24x24x24 plumbed to entire system.
The equipment leftovers I have right now and can use for that tank: 2xNero3, 2xGyre 330, 2xHydra 32, 24" AquaticLife hybrid, Clarisea fleece filter, and some dosers, KH director, Profilux computer etc.
48x24x12:
Pros: more manageable flow, I noticed my Gyres work better in longer tanks then 24". Cheaper then 2 x 24x24x12. The plumbing is less complicated. More compact in comparison with system of 2 tanks.
Cons: I may be hard to keep together torches and acros in the same shallow aquarium, because of lighting and flow requirements. Even in case I still able to setup the appropriate PAR, the flow will be the same across over the tank
2 x 24x24x12
Pros: more configurable, I can be able to feed LPS tank heavily using baby brine shrimp, fleece filter quickly makes the water clear again. Easily detachable in case of I decide to split the system
Cons: plumbing is more complicated, need 2 return pumps, the flow in SPS tank(top 1 priority) is expected not so good as it can be in a longer one, a bit more expensive. Footprint is more that 48 in total because I need some place for pump magnets.
