I just bought some Zoa's, Paly's and a couple of other corals. I bought a 10g tank to QT. Right now I just have a maxi jet 400 circulation pump & heater in there with a 5000 & 3000k LED bulbs for light. I have a HOB with bio wheel, would it be better to use this and should I use carbon with it? Should I also keep the maxi jet in there or should I get enough flow with the HOB. Will the lighting be okay for short term or should I get something different? Thanks!

As far a flow you should be fine any way you choose to go. I would run the biowheel and maxijet. For the lighting do you have a pic and specs of these bulbs. Short term should be ok but that really depends on how short term are we talking.

I'm not sure about the 3000k I just know that it's a daylight bulb. Here's what I have on the 6500k:

Luxrite LR21046 BR20/R20 LED Flood Light Bulb, 8-Watt (50w Incandescent BR20 Equivalent) Dimmable 6500K Daylight, 110° Flood Beam Spread, 500 Lumens 25,000 Hour Life, Color Rendering Index (CRI) 80

I don't want to put big bucks into this setup as I want to replace it with a 40g breeder. The 10g will then be used as part of my fish QT setup. Thanks!

Well the 6500K will not support them long term but should be ok for short term while in QT. I agree about the 3000K bulb its probably going to do nothing more than grow algae. Again though for short term QT purposes in might be ok but I wouldn't bother with if it were me.

I agree with you on not wanting to dumb big bucks into this tank if its only going to be a QT tank. I would however look into a small used 2 bulb t5. A 24" used t5 can be picked up for cheap and if only use for a temporary QT tank the bulbs and everything should last a really long time. I would not even worry about a high end fixture the cheaper the better in this case but T5 would give you enough light to support them in the event they have to stay in QT for a longer period of time (ie bugs and crap that you don't want in the tank).

Best of luck to you 40 breeders make for some awesome tanks.

Thanks for the help!!! I'll see if I can find a T5.

Here's my current set up!

For short term that should work I would probably still yank that 3000K but I don't think it will matter to much. 8 Watts setup like that should be ok for zoas while in QT. All in all should do the job for now.
