hello everyone i was recently thinking about starting a frag tank for LPS and SPS mostly chalices and millis (acro-milli not fire coral) and other acros. i was going to use a 24"x24" but i was unsure of the depth needed for good growth without inhibiting par values. the other thing is im not sure if i should go MH or T5's, either a 150 or 250 MH pendant or a T5 24" (i think 29w each) 6 bank... i was thinking of using star board on the bottom and egg crate elsewhere. its just a coral tank i wasnt planning on adding any fish or CUC, however ive never done this so im not sure if i should or not.

Personally, I'd go with T5s over a tank that size to prevent heat issues and I'd recommend adding a fish or two to create a bit of a bioload so that there are some nutrients in the water column for the SPS. Just my .02

Agree with everything Swanny said. T5's would work well over that sized tank. It would cut down on the heat issues and your chalices would likely be much happier under the T5's in that small a tank. A a few chromi's would work well for some food (waste) for the corals.

awesome thanks for the info, i didnt think about the heat off the MH since ive always only used T5's. i just wasnt sure if t5's were strong enough for the SPS. thanks again

also what is you guys take on the star board bottom?

anyone else with any info/heads up feel free to chime in
