What does everyone use for frag tank substrate? heres the options I was thinking

the tank is going to be a 48x24x12 deep blue

flow is an mp40

lights are reef breeders x3 pro

will have an apex controller as well

so I was thinking these options

nothing but egg crate on the bottom

the reactor stuff used in calcium reactors

black sand to make the colors pop (mp40 may make this impossible)

HELP!

that's what im thinking now that I think more about it. Mp40 moves a lot of water and being only a 12 inch high tank with any sand I would not be able to use the mp40

I was also going to ask what people put in there frag tanks, I was thinking a pair of clowns. The problem with the six line is mine will be totally open, and six line can be jumpers.

I just ordered the mesh from BRS to build a screen for that reason plus just feel more comfortable especially with my three young grandsons visiting all the time...never know when a nerf war might break out lol!

HAHAHAH! nerf wars are pretty awesome, let me know how you like that screen. im just worried it will block some light, its a good idea thou. Allows you to add any type of fish you want

I keep mine barebottom. We have a 240G frag tank and only have 6 fish. A yellow tang, clown pair, pajama pair, and a six line.

I'm not a big fan of bare bottom, but when it comes to a frag tank _ i would have to agree with everyone else. Keep it clean and simple. I would add yellow coris and 2 clowns.

My 2 cents.

I have my 48 x 18 x 12 frag deep blue running as bare bottom, with 2 x mp10 qd on each end. I siphon crap off the bottom each water change and it stays nice and clean.

I don't use egg crate, I mount sps frags direct to grow out plates and place them on the bottom glass.

barebottom as well, Eggcrate kills the flow and you need a load of flow to keep the tank clean. having no sand is a blessing in a frag tank.
