Because of the input of some R2R people and research Iv done... I have decided to switch from a 10 gallon frag tank to roughly a 22 gallon frag tank that’s very shallow. Someone was selling a 24x24x9 inch tank and I decided to grab it. So here a list of advice or products I need recommendations on:

  • Lights, best for a shallow square tank?
  • Live rock rubble. Is this the best option? Should it sit underneath the frag racks? (I’m doing bare bottom)
  • Power-heads. While I would love to spend $300+ on 2 quality powerheads there’s no way I can do that at the moment. Luckily I’m not going to start growing SPS corals until then so what are some good cheap powerheads for softies and LPS corals that I can use for now?
  • Stocking. Clean up crew, maybe a shrimp, what kind of fish?
  • Filtration. The tank doesn’t have a built in sump area in the back like most nano tanks so should I do a HOB with things like chemi pure blue and phosgaurd?
  • Should I leave the tank without a lid? I usually make them myself with mesh tops but I never see frag tanks with lids. I don’t like jumping fish but I’ll live with the risk if it’s recommended.
Thank you in advance for everything as I’m sure you guys will have awesome advice.

Just kidding but we do like pics.
Radion xr15 would be great, maybe raise it a bit for more coverage or add a diffuser.
I have couple pieces of live rock in the edge of my coral qt, works fine and water changes help. Maybe add some filter media in hang on the back reactor.
1 gyre or 1-2 mp10would be great
Utility fish like wrasses and an algae grazer
Hang on the back filter, skimmer and reactor. Reactor u might skip as usually water changes are enough.
Good luck
