Hi everyone! I recently bought a 20g Nuvo tank. So my plan was to make this tank a frag tank. I was wondering if it’s possible to do that without any live sand and rock? My plan was ceramic rings/balls. I would love to hear any ideas or options on the subject thanks! (Sorry if this thread is in the wrong section didn’t see one for frag tanks)

That’s doable. I’d suggest put the media that u are going to use in your existing reef ( I’m assuming you have a tank running) so that it can seed the media then u should be good to go

I would not do anything just do plain bottom with egg create for all the frags. you wont have nurturance problems since feeding corals can be as little as once a week or even every other week. water changes and stable parameters are what you wanna care about the most with a frag tank form my knowledge. and that can be easy token care of with gfo and water changes

Thanks for the advice guys. I just have one question I’m new to the ceramic stuff. Is there a brand that’s (king of the hill) or are they pretty much all the same? Also my tank has one caddie each side should I run floss on top then the ceramic underneath? I can post more pictures if anyone would like more.

honestly I would not even bother they get clogged and need to be cleaned off to be 100 percent vs getting a hunk of dry rock to but in the corner. personally a 20lb rock form bulk reef supply will probly be best bet and maybe cheaper

Would putting a wave maker at the bottom of the tank to keep stuff from settling at the bottom be a good idea? I was thinking maybe a ice cap 1k

Seems like a good idea to me. I have seen other people so that or aim a ph at the bottem of the tank

These are the custom filter holds I have has anyone ever run filter floss on top and filled the bottom two with live rock rubble? And would I have to rinse the rubble every water change or let it go?
