Good afternoon everyone, hope everything is well . I am starting a new sps frag tank. The tank itself is 53”x53”x13” deep. I wAnt to mainly grow colonies , basically set it from a frag and let it grow. I was wondering what would be the best lighting solution. I was thinking about t5’s but, I would like to know what other options I have . I never had a frag tank so, this is new to me. Any su

There is really no difference between the lighting a DT uses and the lighting a frag tank uses. But it's way less likely that you'll want to spend the extra dollars for a fixture that ramps (sunrise/sunset) or has more the 2 channels of color control. It's not a DT, it's a frag tank/grow out tank.

IMO - I just started a frag tank and wanted it to mirror my tanks so I can transfer pieces between them. So I opted for a similar Kessil to what I already have and matched lighting schedules to my DTs. My thought - it would lower the stress when moving frags.

That size might be hard to use Aquatic Life t5s on since its a 53x53. What about Orphek lights? I would check on dimension on those and what they would cover.

I like to match my frag tank lights with my display... just easier that way.

For a tank that size, you are going to need 2 rows of T5s or LEDs or even most MH fixtures. If you want to get a huge reflector with a 400w MH, then that can get most of it, but the edges will still be dim.

The good thing is that you are not very deep, so that makes it a bit easier.
