Some of my SPS in my 350 gallon display are getting large enough that I wouldn't mind fragging them. Not to sell, but to propogate within my display. I have a dragon wrasse that likes to decorate his home with corals. So, I can't have a frag rack in my display, he would demolish it. So, my next thought is setting up a small frag tank. Just a 10 or 20 gallon tank.
My thought is that since my chemistry is doing well in my display for these corals, that I'd want to plumb the frag tank in. Do people do a remote sump drilled tank to grow corals? Or am I better off setting up a completely isolated system with a nano circulation pump or two and it's own heater, etc. With frequent water changes to handle the dosing levels needed, etc? Just seems like a lot of work when I could just plumb something that has the right temperature and temp is carefully control by an apex, I have a sufficient return manifold that I could control sufficient flow through the return lines that would act as the power head and dosing is all taken care of in the display. It would just be an isolation grow tank until the corals are large enough to glue down in the display.
I'm curious if there's inexpensive plumbable small tanks. All I'd have to get is a small grow light and some plumbing parts.
Thoughts?
