I'm in the market for a frag tank to upgrade my 20L QT/Frag Growout system to something more substantial. Previously when I was dabbling with the idea, Deep Blue was the way to go, but now they are no longer really around due to their US presence changing product line importations etc etc. Ideally, I'd like to go glass with a foot print of either 36"x18"x12" or 48"x24"x12". The only option I've been able to find reliably is the ZooMed Low Boy, but I've read enough reviews about the tanks seals giving out pretty quick, and I want nothing to do with that. Sticking with glass is making this harder, but with a frag tank where things are constantly going in and getting shuffled I'd rather stay away from a material that scratches easily.

Here is my Low Boy thread:
https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/zoo-med-50-gallon-low-boy-frag-tank.309299/

I have been running two of them for a while now (almost two years for the first one, based on the thread date). The first one was perfect, the second one had a leaky corner, which took about 10 seconds to fix with some caulking.

@BoomCorals also uses these tanks (as you can see in my thread). Aside from the occasional leaky corner at first, I haven't seen anyone post about the seals 'giving out'. The caulking looks pretty good, really...

I highly recommend these tanks, and will likely purchase more down the road.

@sbash I almost bought one last weekend, but the problem I have is the height is only 10". Ideally I'd like a minimum of 12" so I can get the eggcrate off the floor and get some decent flow underneath as well as tucking in some LR. I know the 2" won't make a difference for LR, but for flow it will. If they literally just had a few more inches...

@Tennsquire I was considering a 40B, but ideally I'd like to go bigger as I know the 36"x18" won't last while I'm fragging, plus I'd like to go rimless as well so I can get away from modding rims to fit equipment since I won't be setting this up in a place I can suspend my lights.

^^^ +1

It seems you know exactly what you want and it isn't readily available. Time to go custom!

Gotta love custom ;) I'll end up doing the same eventually when I have the ability to and need to run a frag, although those waterbox frags are pretty darn slick;)

Custom would be great! Shipping for custom usually isn't though. The WaterBox 60.3's are calling my name, but dare I not order one of those without getting yelled at by the misses for buying aquarium stuff rather than new furniture...

Pretty sure the Waterbox comes with a stand... that's technically furniture....;)

And FWIW to ship my 400 pound (512 pounds with crating) 5 foot tank from Ontario to here in Calgary (about 2100 Miles) was $400ish CDN. In the grand scheme of things it's not that bad and your tank would be about half that size...

Deep Blue is what I was after, but they are going under and whatever stores have now are old stock and that doesn't seem to be these tanks sadly

Seapora is my next bet, but all the retailers I'm finding that stock them won't ship and the local shops to me don't have their distributers setup yet

Give Glass Cages a look. They can make whatever you want and they run trucks to various cities to deliver. I also know they make coral frag tanks that are wide and shallow. When our local reef club tours their plant, they typically have tanks that people ended up not wanting or that weren't picked up. They let these go for relatively cheap so you might be able to find something that way as well. No affiliation with them other than that I have one of their stands and they helped me after the center brace on my 75 gallon tank failed.

I just found a 40 Gallon Breeder at my local Petco for $99, very close to what you want, it's just not fancy like custom. Aqueon is the brand, in some cases they use Tempered panels but only in rare circumstances. If they use Tempered Panels, they note/mark that in the tank somewhere. I'm going to drill mine and make my own plexi corner wall for an overflow area.

I have a deep blue 34 that I use as a frag tank. Its a great tank. You can prob find one used for about the same price as the Petco deal. I picked mine up for $100. Where are you located?

I'm in S.FL. I really wanted the Deep Blue I just can't find it anywhere. When I emailed Deep Blue they had me call Fish Tanks Direct, I spoke with Donna, super nice and helpful.

This is going to be my last choice, I like glasscages and have some of their products already, just right now the issue is time. Custom tanks take weeks to build and then weeks to ship.

This isn't a rimless option as I've been mentioning I'm after.

Seapora makes the same frag tanks that Deep Blue used to make.

I've commented on Seapora above. I'd love to get one, just having issues with LFS that distribute them.

I've looked locally on the used market through clubs, forums and even through sales sites and have yet to find one. I'm finding a ton of tanks, just not a rimless shallow tank.

How long ago was this? Deep Blue has had issues providing retailers with product, at least here on the East Coast.

Well after days and days of research and doing the leg work for a LFS, I got them hooked up with a Seapora dealer on the East Coast. Just paid for a rimless 60 gallon Seapora (48x24x12) RR tank. Now I'm off to figuring out what to do for the stand and sump. Anyone know of any companies that offer treated steel stands for a 120 (same floor print as the tank)? I figure it will be easier to get a sump in/out overtime. I'm looking at a Trigger System 39 sump in the long run, but looking for something simple at first to get the tank up to cycle. Not looking to DIY a stand at this point as I've got enough projects going on.

These frag tanks are hard to find... How did it turn out for you?
