Well, since I purchased the wet tile saw, for fragging, https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21221 I decided to put it to other uses as well.

I went to Lowes and purchased a box of Tumbled Marble, 3" X 6" tiles. The box was the equivalent of 1 square foot (8 tiles) and cost $6.98.

I then cut 3 of the tiles up into various sizes, 1 1/2" X 1 1/2", 1" X 1", 3/4" X 3/4" and I cut one piece that's 2"X2".

I think these will work nicely for corals that need room to spread, such as Zoanthids, encrusting SPS and various LPS. I'll be putting some of them to use today and pics will be in the thread I linked above.

Wish I could take credit for it, but it was actually a couple members here on Reef2Reef that had threads about it, that I read. I've been wanting something flat, without a "peg" like a plug, and with a large enough surface area for certain corals to spread out on. I think these will work out really nicely!

I use the 1 inch tiles from Lowe's. They come in a 12 x 12 square for about $7. They are glued to a piece of heavy paper and a piece of mesh. Pull the mesh off and put the rest in a pot of boiling water. Stir it while it's boiling and the tiles scrubbing together will get the paper off. Change the water and rinse well. 144 tiles ready for fragging for $7 and 30 minutes of work. They have larger sizes too.

Anyone find anything thinner? I guess the thick ones will at least stay put....

This is a great idea, and yes Meisen there are different thicknesses. Im going to go to OSH since its closer, i hope they carry a variety of tiles i can choose from. Would like to go with tumbled marble because of the natural stony look. Good lookiN!
