Well, I finally got the courage up to frag my colony of Rastas. I have over 50 polyps and I thought I'd cut off the ones that were starting to grow off of the disk.

The fragging went well, but the next day, I noticed what appears to be zoapox all over the colony. Is this a fungus that can come on that quickly from fragging?

I know rastas are known for melting after fragging, but does this sound right to get zoapox?

Needless to say, I am doing Furan dips and QT and saving some of my frags just in case.

What's the zoapox look like?

I have some weird white spot that is forming on one of my bam bams...I thought it may have gotten stung by a nearby nuclear green paly....then I remembered about this whole "zoapox" thing....kinda scared ;)

That sucks, but I was told hydrogen peroxid doesnt get rid of zoa pox, but,I had an infestation of these things on one of my wild colonies.so every other day I,

Dipped them in H.P. for 10min and as soon as 10min was up they went into a weak iodine bath for 5-10min,then back to the tank

After the 2nd treatment i could really tell a differance, i went from covered in pox with no polyps opened to a few pox and 10+ polyps opened,

Good luck, i hope you save them, rastas are really nice looking zoas!

Furan 2 works very well for it I saved 2 frags with it, but continue doing it for atleast a week after you think there gone, or they will return. What worked best for us was 4 days of dip 3 days recover, then dR days dip and 3 recover. I did this for 3 weeks.

First time I did it I quit after the first week and it came right back.

I've had this before as well. Lost over 300 polyps of tubbs blue and some other smaller colonies. My rastas also got the pox, but back then I only had about 12 polyps and I did lose all but 4. Now like I said, I have over 50 polyps. This is my second day of Furan treatment. I will keep it going as the treatment states. Hope they make it.

Never thought of trying Hydrogen Peroxide. I do know a fellow reefer who dips his frags on a regular basis in this stuff. He also said it gets rid of hair algae.

Update: Here is what they looked liked a few days after fragging and then after one week of Furan dips. Still curious if this was caused to fragging or as mentioned in another post and at melevsreefs website that this is just the time of year for zoapox.

i would keep going for atleast one more week of furan 2 dips ... i stopped after 1 week and they returned very fast and just as bad. it took a good 2-3 weeks of dips to completly wipe them out. but you should be able to cut back the strength of each dip each week.
