I am pretty good at fragging zoos but I don't know what to do about the grandis paly colony I just got. They are growing like a tree. All the polyps are branching out from one stem (like tree branches). I have read that you can just cut the head off and glue it to rubble. Anyone out there had experience fragging these. Thanks

I have fragged these several times. They are very fleshy, almost like cutting into a grape. Best strategy is to make one clean slice to seperate the polyp from the main branch and then use a flat faced chisel/xacto blade to scrape underneath the mat and seperate it from the rock/plug.

this is what I use. japanese dollar store wood chisels. they are very sharp and MUCH MUCH stronger than xactos/razer blades. these are hands down the single best fragging tool for zoas/palys. I use them for everything.

Make sure you dry the bottom of the frag off on a paper towel. They tend to produce a lot of slime and the glue wont stick well otherwise.

And please protect yourself from Palytoxin wearing gloves, goggles and keeping your mouth shut while cutting the polyps!

I know this is going to be a stupid question but why do you think these are grandis? Hard to tell by the picture but they look like a regular sea mat to me. I have two colonies of grandis. One is cinnamon and the other has some green on the face. Please forgive my poor photo skills. The grandis seem to grow in a tight clump and the disks are rather floppy with some striping center to edge.
