So my hammer is up to a pretty decent size now (7 heads) and there is a really nice piece I could frag that is 3 heads. The only problem is that there is skeletal tissue covering the entire coral, pretty much down to the base. Would this be a problem in fragging, or would it be fine?

It is often times not recommended to cut through the flesh and tissue that is still connected. It is often an indicator that below the skeletal frame, the flesh inside hasn't separated into it's own branch.

It can be done, it's just a risk That when you cut into it, You expose fresh tissue which can then get infected and kill off both sides.
