So I have a frag of palythoas AND really nice zoanthids. I’d love to separate the palys before they choke the zoanthids. How should I go about doing this? Should I just try to cut the palys off?

Cutting them or If you can break the frag plug to separate.. make sure your use gloves, eye protection and do in a well ventilated area or outside.

How do I cut them, just slice off the palys? I don’t need to save those particular palys, I have so many more that I think it’ll be ok if I loose 4-5 heads of it

They look like they are both on frag plugs. Is that right?

If so, can you pull a frag plug out of the rock, or even break it off. The other potion is to cut the rock into 2 parts. I've had to do that before. Heck, I even used a hole saw to cut a core around a baby rock flower anemone I wanted to save when I sold a rock full of eagle eye zoas. I cored down about 2/3rds of the way into the hole saw bit. Pulled the saw off and used a small screw driver as a pry bar and snapped the core loose from the rest of the rock. Even cooler was the core with the RFA on it fit perfectly inside a 1/2 pvc end cap. Most of my RFA's are in end caps so they will stay put in the sand.

They are on a single frag plug that isn't attached to the rock, I can easily remove it and move it wherever. The problem is that the palys are mixed throughout the zoas, I worry that if I cut them, the dying paly may poison the water, but if I leave them, then they will certainly kill the zoas.

My plan atm:
1. Remove the frag plug from the tank and put into small container
2. Use a small blade to cut the palys off as much as possible, but this will still leave paly parts that could grow back or (as I understand) poison the water
3. Throw out remove palys
4. Put plug back into tank
