Hey all,

I’ve been growing these leptastrea frags out on the overflow of my reefer 525 (for size perspective). Getting closer to the intake. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I could manage the size/frag these pieces without removing the colonies? Also, I wonder if the John Deere and the blue one will graft.

They should be relatively easy to cut with a sharp blade. If they don't come off easy you could always score the colony then scrape them and collect the pieces. Put something under them so they dont fall to the back and bottom of your tank.

Ok, thanks. I wasn’t sure if I could cut them with a blade, was worried might be too thick and I’d just gore the flesh. Will try it. Thx.

I'm not 100% sure it will work but I think it will. Scraping will definitely work. I would probably try and cut off a small piece first or score the max amount you want to cut off first and work backward from there. Worst case you damage a few polyps. I have gotten leptoseris off my bottom glass which of course is pretty similar but on the bottom it was much easier then the back.

I’d cut straight into the top of the coral with a razor blade to set the margin of where you want the frag to stop then come in along the edge to scrape it off. You’ll probably still end up with some broken pieces though.

What would you scrape with?
