not really, i needed the space and the edge grew its polps back with in 2 weeks. so you could not even tell i cut it.

Here is when I cut mine up into pieces.
It healed back as quickly as you describe.

Here is one of the larger "frags".

All in all I think I got 20 frags and some of those were 3"x3" sized pieces.
