Yep, I just cut a branch but I also run plenty of carbon.

That's what I'm planning on doing too. Any coral/sps problems? I'm thinking about cutting the nepthea back slowly, maybe a branch every few days to limit toxins in the water; compared to all at once. Also, going to incorporate water changes for some dilution. Good plan? Or am I over thinking this.

125gal Tank: Planning on 5gal water change 1-2 hrs after fragging. Don't want to throw chemistry off by water changing excessive volume every few days. Just enough to help the carbon out.

I chop out all the Nepthea I want to get out in a huge chunk. Then frag it into smaller pieces outside the tank so it doesn’t put slime in the water. Throw the pieces in a cup with some rubble, wait two weeks, and voila!

My tank is AWC 5g a day, maybe it helps, but I just normally cut one big stalk, then cut smaller and put in my little tank. It grows like a weed, but the clowns love it. I've cut it in my 34 bio, 120g and now the 240, no ill effects.

Same here. I cut off a few pieces. Run some carbon. Never had any issues. Have a frogspawn right next to it and it never even shows signs of stress from anything coming off the leather

So do you cut it at its base? Then frag the rest outside of the tank. Seems like a good way to go.

Do you have any sps effected in the tank?

I have some small barely larger than frag size sps and an encrusting montipora that’s grown a bit. Nothing got bothered in my tank. I only cut off a few pieces at a time. If you want to do a lot I liked the idea posed earlier about cutting a big chunk and cuttting that down in a separate container.

It doesn’t matter where you cut. Just make sure your cuts are straight and deep, ragged cuts or a chopping motion makes it difficult for the frags to heal. Sometimes I just chop a single long branch in half then cut that up like a hot dog
