Can you drag a coral that is stuck to your aqua scape in your display tank? I have a leather that has grown and I need to cut one branch off but the coral has attached itself to the main aqua scape. Is it okay to make a clean cut inside your tank without removing the coral?

Yes, you can do that. However, I would run a good amount of activated carbon afterward, leathers can release toxins when stressed.

+1 vote yes

+1 vote carbon and change it daily and run for days...

I tried to make a rule no more leathers in our tank after stressed leather ... watched death roll down our tank ... at the time didn't know toadstool was leather but as soon as I found out it was I knew EXACTLY what was going on... and added more carbon lol

Okay this is a very large coral, do you think it could effect tank parameters and other corals of toxins released ? I’ve never dragged one this large let alone in my display

None of the parameters we measure do anything to measure toxins. Yes toxins impact everything...

You are making minimal cutting so I would think much much much much much less likely to have problem than what we had.

In my tank, we could watch it moving down the tank, but didn't think of our leathers as/at ground zero (even though it was (and caused) ground zero). @DIYreefer was wise to suggest carbon. Just run it for a couple days precautionary, longer if you notice anything. Start it just as you are about to cut/stress your leather in tank. Tiny scrap of colt leather survived and I wanted to put it out in the cold... but BF really wanted it... Its grown back from nearly nothing to about 4" all cute despite its toxic potential but it was over 2 times larger before its war. I was able to get toadstool remains rehomed (was still large). SO, I did have a lot of toxins flowing.

Water change wouldn't be bad idea, but usually carbon is cheaper than doing big water change.
