Is there any truth to the rumor that trimming back your corals will lead to faster coral growth, or is that just an urban legend?

Well speaking from experience. Fragging, cutting and ultimately abusing sps has had the opposite effect for me unfortunately.
However there may be some merit to nipping tips off a dormant frag to encourage new growth.

Adam, I was listening to a reefbum podcast with Chris Meckly and they mentioned if an acro was just not doing anything for quite some time, “take a screwdriver “ and stab it. Something along those lines. I guess to encourage new growth to heal the area? :thinking-face: I don’t think I could do that but I’m curious on your thoughts.
