hey guys,

I have zoas encrusting my main rockwork that i cant simply remove from the tank. Id still like to frag them. Is there a risk of poisoning my tank when doing that? Also any tips on how to go about it? I find it very hard to get them from the rock without killing them.

Thanks in advance!

Have you gotten a dental pick set?
You want the dull ones that come in it.
Takes practice.

Do you use them to chip the rock away? Or actually peel them off the rock?
Peel them off the rock.
But yea , if it’s in a spot you can easily chip the rock you can do that.
I have a sharp (but now rusty ) chisel I use for that stuff.

Def look at some YouTube on zoa fragging. They’ll come off as individuals or in clumps, then pull them apart in a dish.
That’s how they sell those $100000000 PP singles.
Do wear eye protection when working in the dish.

I might look into this because I have random zoas every where and I’d like to move them all to one section of the tank

yeah generally I do one of a few methods:
If possible, cut the rock a bit underneath (I always try to do this first)
If not possible, peel from the rock (or if there are a lot)
If thats not possible, cut the polyp at its base. (this method is pretty last resort, higher death rate)

My go to method that works 9/10 times is to cut the tissue of the clump/poly away from the main base with a razer blade. Then use the corner of the razer blade to scrape underneath the zoa and try to get some rock with it.

Well what im trying is getting more than single polyps. Those are no expensive zoas but as a student i can use every dollar(euro in my case)

To peel of the mat as a whole sounds promising! Ill have to give that a try.
