free 54 gallon corner tank. worth it?

I got a offer to get a free 54 gallon corner tank with a stand for free. I don't think its drill-able but I do have a HOB drain I could use. Problem is I was planing on going with a 40 breeder setup with a 20L sump. So the only problem I see with the corner tank is having any room to put a sump. I probably have to buy one that fits or make my own sump. I do have some extra acrylic sheets I could use. Also the place I where I would want to put the tank I might have to drill a hole in the floor to get AWC/ATO plumbing to it.

I'm torn on if I should take the free tank or not? Any thoughts?

Sounds like it might be too far of a stretch from what you had intended.

I wouldn’t let the fact it’s free be to much of a factor in your decision, catch the petco dollar per gallon sale and you can get the breeder and the 20 for around $70. I’m working on a new breeder build and love the tank dimensions.

yeah actually already have a 20 Long sump from previous setup. Sort of thinking I agree with you maybe too much trouble and may not end up being happy with it in the end..

My opinion, free equals heck yeah. Not saying use it but. As long as it is not a major hassle to get or storage is an issue grab it. Tons of stuff you can do with it. List it for trade or sale on a local reef club or this forum to help get the tank you want. Use for a hospital or QT tank. Could be a makeshift sump someday.

Maybe by an iguana? Possibilities are endless.

I actually already have 1 55 gallon that's made with 1/2 glass(old scratched up a lot), another modern 55 gallon with stand, and a 29 gallon that I had for the last reef I tried. I not sure if I need another tank unless I plan to use it. lol I like to get rid of one of the 55 gallons so maybe I could try to trade locally? I would use the 55 gallon but I was feeling like it wouldn't make a good reef tank. I was planning on using one of these extra tanks for a QT as well.

no, its not worth it. if your going to go through the trouble then get a BIG tank.

What sets the 40 breeder apart from a 55 is the width, gives the tank a lot of visual depth and lots of bottom real estate for your rock structures and corals.

lol I just got an offer on Craigslist for my newer 55 gallon be nice to get rid of one of them. I might use the old 55 gallon or the 29 gallon as a QT.
