We'll probably be harvesting chaeto this weekend if anyone wants some.

FWIW I installed a nice square red/blue led grow light and the chaeto seems to be growing much faster.

I tried having some, and it melted in my sump under a regular incandescent bulb. Calperula grows like a weed though. Any suggestions?

Should have used fluorescent twisty bulbs or better yet the newer led screw in types.

My calperua profilera grew fine under lower lights but when I added more light the grape calperula out competed the profilera.

you might want to try the red/blue grow lights. like this one on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PAR38-E27-...179976?hash=item3f578391c8:g:kVgAAOSwhfhZu5-m

I got 4 with three left if you want to test one out. Or just spend the $14 and get one for yourself. LOL

I had the same issue. I had caulerpa with a little marineland led light, and wanted to switch to chaeto, but I knew that light wouldn't be enough, so I got a Kessil H80, unfortunately that wasn't strong enough to out compete the display tank for nutrients, so I ended up selling that and getting the H380 and my chaeto has doubled in a week.

I have an LED bulb I can try switching it to. Thought fluorescent would have a better spectrum?

BRS reports that LED grow lights which are red/blue are the best for plant growth. Flourescent are ok and better for the human eye is display refugiums and tanks. But the weird red glow is supposed to be the best for plant life. Check out the BRS in next post

I assume you both like chaeto better than calperula? I've had it for ~6 months and have had no problems with it going sexual etc...

Chaeto is better for a refugium but I did like calperula in a more display type setting. With my in tank refugium (just egg crate 3" in from of the back glass) my two tangs and other fish really liked grazing on either that poked through the egg crate.

I could use some Chaeto, I just started up a tank and was looking for some if you still had some?

We could spare some. softball or larger size.
