So about8 months ago I boughta small Aussie elegance and it wasndoing wonderful in my tank..about a month ago the flesh detached from the skeleton floated around the tank and settled in a niche in the rockwork..it has been there for a month..surprisingly it did not die..but it has been living for a month with skeleton..anyone ever hear of something like this?

This is new to me, I always was told rocks are bad for elegance because they cause tears in the flesh. What I have seen with elegance is even the smallest tear usually leads to death. Your situation sounds neat, do you have any pics?

Elegance are one of my favorite corals, I always have to have one in my tank. The best one I ever had fell victim to a coral beauty angel, been growing out a blue and yellow one now for about 8 months.

This usually occurs if your system is deficient in calcium or strontium. If you are not supplementing either, I would suggest you start a regiment to maintain at least Ca and alk levels. The C.jardinei can regrow a new skeletal base, but if water conditions remain unfavorable for it, it can also slowly whither and die.

I was thinking maybe it had to do with the flow being to much but iI don't know never seen anything like it..it has lived for a month now without the skeleton
