Hey Guys-

I have recently started doing free lance photography for the county news paper. Im needing some advice here.

Im currently using a good camera body, I just got the 7d, but dont have a CF card, and Im waiting on that, so I had the proper body, but I also need the good lenses.

So far, I have a few, Ive got:

24-70
70-200
50mm (1.8 and 1.4)
17-55mm
24-105mm

However, I feel like I need another lens. Im not quite sure, but I feel like I need one that will do amazing wide angle shots. Im looking at the 17-40, however, this is preferd on a non crop body, which the 7d has a crop factor is 1.6, which makes the lens a 28-64, which isnt that wide, and since Im not getting rid of the 7d to upgrade to a diffirent body, I need a good lens.

I looked into the 10-22, which is like a 17-34mm lens, which seems to be great.

Any suggestions?

And any other lenses that are to just DIE FOR?!?!

Thanks,
Austin

Great selection of lenses. I'm shooting Nikon with the D300 and love my 12-24.
Go for the 10mm zoom your referring to you'll love it.

I will probably go with it after I have $800" bucks saved up, haha

Any one else have any other lens suggestions that I don't have???

Love love love my 24-105 f4.0 L lens on my 7d!! Crystal clear! And you certainly can't go wrong with the 100mm macro.

Yeah, I agree, that lens is awesome! Lol

Im passing the 100mm macro up and buying the 180mm from tamron a really good friend of mine uses it, and he love it!

If aquarium photography is your thing you may want to rethink that. I own a Sigma 150 macro and I prefer shooting with a borrowed 60mm macro. The 150 is awesome for nature images though

I don't have a reef anymore, haha

Ill look into a smaller macro, maybe a 50mm cause it's half the price of a 60mm and a extension tube can help with the 10mm loss. Lol!

Any other lenses that are must have?

I'm surprised you have both the 24-70 and the 24-105. From all my readings leading up to buying the 24-70 it seemed most people agonized over the differences and then went with one or the other.

I'd say go longer and get a 400. I don't think you're going to notice much difference unless you go L glass on the wide end (the super wide angle 14L!).

Which 70-200 do you have? I've been eyeing that one for quite awhile...

Love my 70-200L 2.8 MKII best lens out there IMO. What exactly are you shooting?

I had a little bit of extra monet saved up, and I found a EXTREMELY cheap price on the 24-105,like Im not joking, I paid next to nothing for the 24-105...

The 24-70 2.8, I had to pay full cost for, which was a PAIN, cause $1,300 took me a little while to save up.

Right now Ive got the 70-200 4L. I got it awhile back. its a great sharp lens, but I think Im going to get a 70-200 2.8 IS v1 lens. I found a used one for $1,299 and the lens is no longer made, so I really want to get it. Its a great deal, I just need the cash!haha!

15mm fish is a good wide angle, had a few shots published with it. It doesn't overly distort depending on how you use it. I used to have the sigma 12-24.. Can take some interesting shots but I got tired of the over distortion rather quickly.

I don't know what you are shooting for this paper, but I've found 99% of the shots I've got in papers (not magazines), have all be shot with my 24-70, or my 70-200. There have been times I wished I had a longer lens, but I have the wide range covered between the 15mm, and the 24-70.
