Freebie zoa id

Lunar eclipse ?

Just wild zoas , pretty cool though , store needs a name , make one up , thats what every one else did. There is nobody who has the " license " to naming , all the named stuff now has existed forever , its just marketing anyhow, and helps people keep track, but most corals have multiple vendor names anyhow, which does not do much for clarity , just price gouging.

I said the same thing before. The fact is they're not a named zoa. You need a name to call them to sell back to the store? Then call the a creamsicle which is a generic catchall (like fire and ice) but instead for any orangey looking zoa. But, I'd also caution them and be completely transparent. Fact is my lfs brings in colonies of these, chops them up, and sells 8-12p frags for $10 or $15.

Now, the name game, especially with zoas is annoying but it's the only way we have to differentiate between strains. All too often I see people ask until they get the answer they're looking for, or, settle for 'close enough' which is fine. But when you go to trade them then other people have the wrong ID and that's what ticks people off and how misinformation spreads.

Now, I'm being pragmatic here. If the zoa in question doesn't have the distinguishing characteristics of a strain you're trying to match it too (allowing for differences in params), then its a no namer. If it has some characteristics shared by a group put it in a 'catch all" like creamsicle, fire and ice, Hawaiian PE, dragon eye/greenbay packer etc.

No one has a concession on naming and anyone can do it but I'd cation you against doing it willy nilly less you lose credibility with your lfs.

I'm attaching a few comparison pics I created a while back so you can see side by side comparisons of some of the IDs people have been suggesting.

looks like orange oxide to me, just tell them they are and if they disagree then tell them that what the person who sold them to you said they were or maybe a different strain. Or google zoa id and there is a site that is spot on. I put in colors of something, ctally a blow pop, and later found out they were right. I have a credit at unique corals and wanting to buy zoas and most of theirs they sell they dont list the name. So annoying!

I just realized this is an old thread...oops! LOL
