Hello

My name is Nicolas, I am a little french and I come to take full information on aquariums fish only.

After 11 years in the recifal, after bad times and great bins like many people, I finish my adventure in the reef. I'm going to stop my tank set up recently and with which I burst myself keeping maintenance at the simplest, no additions and regular water changes.

This last tank of 80x80x45cm (77gallons) typed "Aquascaping" has dominance LPS and SPS, ended up being completely stained by this "dump" of red alga covering everything !!!
All this because of a cutting that I have cleaned badly, I am wanting it !!! error of the beginner ..... not the envy nor the courage to restart a tank recifal, too disappointed, too disgusted ....

I want to make me happy with pretty fish that can not be maintained in reef I put my tank, furniture and decantation for sale.

I am going to order a new tank of 120x90x50 540litres (142gallons), not huge as volume for a FO, but the dimensions (on the ground) offer a real swimming space. This avoids seeing fish make lengths! not very realistic for my taste.
My oversized material for the old tank is perfect for this one.
I have some questions for the filtration, I do not want Stones alive in my tank, finally just the minimun to create a decor, about 15 / 20kgs maxi. So the first question .... the big filtration can it be done on perlon and blue foam? then, a few kilograms of living stones in the decantation and finally the skimmer?
2nd question ... put in place a filtration Biopellets "all in one" phosphate and nitrates.
Do you have any information on the use of biopellets in an FO aquarium?
I am interested in all the info about the FO tank, their filtrations etc ... In France it is not very known, fashion is recifal.
I hope I have written in the right section.
Thank you in advance for your answers .
I will present my new tank soon.

Welcome to R2R!!
Sounds like you are starting a new adventure!!
Biological filtration can be done many ways in a FO tank. From Bio-Balls in the sump or "Decantation" or live rock in the sump or display. It is also possible many other ways as well.
As for Bio-pellets, I persononally, am not a fan, but they DO work for Nitrate. As for Phosphate, GFO, or Granular Ferric Oxide works very well.
In a fish only tank, with fish that have specific jobs, I think that these two items will be of a lesser concern than in a reef.
Keep the questions coming!! And definitely post up some pictures of your progress!!

Thank you for the welcoming.

AE-CH aquaexcel skimmer, Sicce lift pump, Tunze brewing and Orphek Atlantik V1 lighting
I was one of the first in France to have this lighting.

Here are some pictures of my old tank, when it was in shape.
