Can anyone I'd this algae? I never did freshwater tanks, but trying to help my nelphew with his tank. Thanks! Sorta looks like cyano

Although far less common than in SW, I think that there is a freshwater strain of cyano. More flow and more maintenance should help a lot.
 
Looks like Diatom/Brown Algae to me.
 
Yeah I guess I should have added It also depends on how old your nephew is. I mean a good clean and turning down the lights is a good start. Floating plants do a great job at preventing algae and treating algae. They multiply, but once a month removal of the extras are well worth the how cool they can make your tank look. CO2 worked great.

but if he is like 7 I am going to recommend a good cleaning, and lower the brightness of the light.
