Hello everybody! I've been doing freshwater planted tanks for a little over a year now. Currently running a 40B, 29, 20 long, and a 10. I have been l lurking here since not long after getting into freshwater and lovr how awesome the community is. My buddy who got me into freshwater started to make the plunge into reef so I decided to follow suit.

I'm still in the planing stages but I have a 60 gallon 4ft tank I bought off Craigslist that will probably be my display tank. Might upgrade to a 120 gallon tank but we will see.

I am looking forward to diving into the discussions and learning all that I can. I will post a build thread in the next few months once I start pulling the trigger on buying stuff.

Hello!

I think I would be more inclined to go right with the 120 and use the 60 as a sump or you'll be wishing the whole time u have the 60 set up that you just went with the bigger. Many will say bigger is better and is usually easier to maintain due to the larger water volume and less fluctuation in parameters.

Yea, I know I'll want to upgrade at some point. The price point hurts a bit because if I'm gonna do it I wanna do it right the first time.

Yeah I hear ya. The start up is the worst. It'll pay off. You'll enjoy. I too came from freshwater and had 7 tanks at one point both fw and sw. But I have a 125 reef and I love it and a 20 gallon with a breeding pair of fw Angels and that's good enough for me now. It got to be to much eventually

I plan on downsizing my tank collection eventually, probably to just the reef tank and my 40B freshwater to lower my maintenance time. And the thought of upgrading the tank after its setup doesn't sound enjoyable. Been talking to the wife about the tough decision and she agrees with you. Just get the big one from the get go.

Upgrading tanks can be a very long process. When I switch my 75 to this 125 it took me about 6 hours with no interruptions. And longer of you don't have enough rodi made up. But if you have help it can be more enjoyable. The one I did before this one was bc of a leak in the tank so it was forced and we made fun and had a movie going and the beers going down too but still took a long time
