I'm thinking about a small fish for my tank. I researched that it is best to give them a freshwater dip for a few mins to kill any parasites. I'd like to hear experiences with this, how to do it and if I should add anything else to the freshwater.

Fresh water dip is useful for diagnosing flukes and for temporary relief of heavy Infestations of external parasites. It will not treat, cure or eliminate parasites, but it may buy some time to set up a hospital tank if needed.

There have been reports that doing freshwater dip and then placing the fish into a clean tank, and repeating several times over several days, can clear a fish of Brook.

+1 Dip to diagnose if flukes and provide temporary relief and then treat with appropriate meds to eradicate parasites.

To provide a success dip you'll need to do the following.

- RODI water same temp and PH as your aquarium
- Air stone/pump for water circulation
- Amquel or Prime Ammonia reducer (optional but good idea)
- 5-7 minute dip depending on the health of the fish
- Turn down the lights in the room to reduce stress
