Freshwater Dip

That’s the one I’m using! Worked great for my flame hawk fish. He looked healthy from the get go, but I’ve heard they can transport disease without showing symptoms so it was nice peace of mind.

Matched pH and temp and fish didn't make it. I was only suspecting flukes. Fish looking amazing but might have been breathing a bit fast before I did the dip.
Sorry to hear that. Sometimes things are out of control. If you stay in this hobby long enough you will witness the beauty of it.

Slight necrothreading here, but I believe the content is useful.
I also asked the same question about FW dip seeming a bit drastic wen we go to so much trouble to acclimatise. The discussion here is clarifying. Thanks.
However, seeing the discussion around FW dip to help (but not solve) potential fluke problems, is it not better just to avoid and go straight to Prazi treament? Given correct aeration set up etc, and the fact Prazi is curative, why even bother with the FW dip stage?
I am asking as BRS seems to push it in their shorter QT protocol.

Thanks - loads to learn here!

I really only use FW dips as a diagnostic tool - I look for dead flukes in the dip water afterwards. However, you need a microscope to see most flukes.

FW dips can have a use in buying some time - you generally want to treat for protozoans before flukes (because protozoans kill faster) but if you know the fish have flukes, a FW dip can buy you some time to finish the protozoan treatment.

Thanks for the reply. My real question is why you would not just treat prophylactically with prazi at the same time as the start of the copper bath. Are the two together too toxic?

The reason behind my question is to keep the QT period as short as possible, and if we can double up on treatments, that helps.

Thanks

I try to avoid using more than one medication at a time due to combined stress issues. If you can get plain prazi powder (not Prazipro) you can more safely use that in conjunction with Coppersafe. Using Prazipro and ionic copper at the same time is more stressful.
Generally, protozoans kill fish faster than flukes do, so I usually treat with copper first, then prazi.
