Freshwater dipping a hammer with brown jelly

So been fighting a loosing battle with brown jelly and and saw on a YouTube video someone dipped their hammer for 5 minutes as a cure/treatment anyone have experience doing this everywhere else I've seen this is a major no no

I’ve never heard or experienced this working. Cipro and H2O2 are the preferred remedies but even these are hit or miss. GL.
