Hello everyone. I just had a question about freshwater dipping corals and fish. I know that a lot of people do dips on new arrivals of corals, but I do not see much posted on dipping fish, unless they are sick. My question is, is it okay to freshwater dip new arrivals of fish for 5 minutes and than start the drip acclimation back into saltwater? Also, how long should you freshwater dip new corals before you acclimate them? Thanks everyone!

Seems like that would be added stress to the fish. Proper QT is what the fish need before entry into the tank or purchase fish from a reputable vendor that does proper QT for you before shipping.

Lots of extra stress. I’d really only recommend a fw dip if you are trying to test for a problem or alleviate symptoms. Preemptively treating with copper and prazi in qt makes sure nothing makes it to the dt.
For corals, an iodine dip is a better route. Fw dip on coral can do a lot of damage, won’t instantly kill it but I wouldn’t do it unless I had to.
