Just a friendly reminder to set an alarm or get a float switch for your rodi units. I have a float switch for my rodi that is routed to the basement but I fill up gallon containers for drinking water and I left this on for 3 hours while I went out to eat. Water all over the floor upstairs and through the ceiling to the basement. Looks like I'll be drywalling this weekend.

Yikes so sorry! I have had my share of "leaks" as well! :)

Yeah I've never let it go this long haha. I'm no longer allowed to make water In any of the finished portions or the house. Fair enough, I'm going to run the ro line to where I make saltwater. I should have done that a long time ago.

That's totally beat. Been there too, let's just say i probably won't be getting my security deposit back.

That's no good. I'm contemplating, sanding, painting with killz and then painting the ceiling it was 80 for the last 2 days so it dried really fast.

Since I hooked up a float switch to my Apex for my RO tank, I have yet to overflow. When it gets full, I get email and text messages. Has worked better than any other solution I've tried.

As soon as I read the title, I knew exactly what this was about. How did I know? Because I've done it, MANY TIMES! I'd venture a guess that at least 99% of us have! By the way, setting a timer or alarm won't help much, when you leave the house...lol. Nothing like having your cell phone alarm go off, when you're 50 miles from home, announcing that your floor is about to get wet!

You could probably go with Kilz, we used that on the drywall in my kitchen when I caught it on fire and now youd never even know it happened. I mean no smell, nothing.

Fire?? There has to be more to that story! Float switch is now a must have. I can't believe I went so long without one.

Yup, ro/di spontaneously burst into flames. So lesson learned, float switch! No it was just a grease fire. Beer + deep frying = fire
Who woulda thunk it?

You sold me on killz haha... I was lucky enough to be able to dry the ceiling from above because there's a 3 or 4 foot opening where the ceiling was dropped and surprizingly there was no insulation between the first floor and basement. That explains why you can hear everything like the person is sitting next to you. Anyway I've learned my lesson.

I think we've all been there. I have a float switch on my rubbermaid now, but I also have a digital sprinkler timer that I can set for anywhere up to 4 hours. Great for filling up a 5 gallon jug that I use to fill my ATO reservoir.

I fill the 5 and 7 gallon jugs from Walmart. I have had overflows happen lots of times. Examples:

I left for the weekend and left my RODI running on a third floor apartment... Good thing the bucket was in the sink huh?

I left the house for about 5 hours or so and came back to a flooding bucket. This was a different third floor apartment. Majority of the water ran into the washing machine though. I had the bucket on top. Not too much damage, or at least none that wasn't easy to hide.

Then I got into a duplex and have had a few floods. Nothing too major though.

To fix the flooding issue I have a floor alarm set up that is as loud as a fire alarm. It screams until it gets dry.

I also have a Leak Detector that's sold by BRS. It gets set on top of the hole I use for filling the buckets. When the bucket starts to flood it shuts off the RO supply line. This has been the best investment I have ever made with my RODI.

Tell me more about the sprinkler timer... Does it turn off the water supply?

Yup, it has a solenoid that closes a valve when the time is up. I can start it manually for an amount of time between 1-240 minutes or I can set it to come on every day/6hours/once per week/etc. at a certain time and stay on for "X" minutes. I've been using it for about a year and haven't had any problems yet.

hey you can just do what i do in my appartment. i put my trash cans in the extra shower that i never use. if it over flows i just wasted some water lol. plenty of overflows for me but i thought ahead.
