Fritz RPM Salt blue box

Just curious if anyone else using this salt has had stuff floating on the surface of the water in the mixing vat? Didn't have this problem with Brightwells NeoMarine and even for a short stint went to reef crystals and that didn't even have no where near the amount of stuff floating on the surface as the fritz rpm salt does. I originally switched from NeoMarine because of what the cost was and the alk levels just weren't where I would like to be. So I switched to reef crystal for higher alk but instantly regretted that as it mad my vat nasty at the bottom, so after that box is when I moved to fritz. I have even spoken with a product representative at the company and she was baffled by the fact that I had stuff floating in the vat after adding salt mix.

I use the Blue box and it's super clear, with no floaters. When's the last time you cleaned your mixing tank?

Interested too. I use live aquaria salt which people have said is the same salt. Never had any residue or floating stuff.

I use Fritz RPM and have never noticed any floaties, always mixes cleanly and quickly for me.

Literally cleaned it right before I started using the fritz salt with citric acid. The rep at fritz said that it could be my supply water. Which I know for a fact it is 100% not from the water I use.

And how exactly would that be? Because I used citric acid to clean my mixing vat out and then rinsed it out well?

Don’t really need to clean mixing tanks with citric acid, just rinse it with tap water or use buckets. Never had any problems with mixing salt in buckets. I use both red and the blue fritz rpm salt.

Well went you use a salt that leaves stuff at the bottom of your mixing vat that is so hard you have to use a razor blade to remove it, tap water ain't gonna cut it. Doing a citric acid soak is easier and removes it better than any razor blade ever will. And as far as the mixing in buckets, i'm not going to sit there and individually mix up 8 - 5 gallon buckets every week to do a water change.

Which yes, when you make saltwater in small quantities and use it immediately then that will work. When your making 40 gallons at a time and not using it immediately and precipitation happens and hardens on the bottom that does not work.

The whole point is I don't see what citric acid being used to clean out a salt vat has to do with things floating on top of the water after I add the salt a mix it. If citric acid was the issue that caused it then many people would have stuff floating in their tanks considering quite a few people probably use citric acid to clean their pumps and power heads that go in their tanks.

Yes, my buckets are only 5 gallons but there was a time were I made extra saltwater and kept it if needed for an emergency water change or if I have to raise the salinity for a week or two, water stayed fine. If you keep your water for a month then I’ve no way of knowing, interesting though that some saltwater cannot be stored for long periods.

Yes, my buckets are only 5 gallons but there was a time were I made extra saltwater and kept it if needed for an emergency water change or if I have to raise the salinity for a week or two, water stayed fine. If you keep your water for a month then I’ve no way of knowing, interesting though that some saltwater cannot be stored for long periods.

Yeah I try not to let my fresh salt water sit more than a week, being that I can't particularly keep my 40 gallon container in the house and it has to be in the garage. And then there is the fact that I live in Florida so the water heats up quite nicely in the summer time, which I'm sure screws things up. But that being said the neomarine never left anything in the bottom of the container. It seems that I only got it when I used reef crystals which I ditched real quick. lol

Never noticed a residue or floaties with Fritz blue box, I’ve been using it for 3 years. I mix between 5 and 30 gallons at a time.
I use bleach and tap water to clean my mixing container a couple times a year.

It's just so weird. I just finished a box, and the new box I have has a new look to it so before I mix some up with that I'm going to clean it out again completely.

I use a pressure washer to clean the vats. Hopefully it's just dust or debris that somehow got in the vat. Also sometimes after cleaning the brown crud you will get floaters if it's not rinsed clean. It's tuff to get that brown residue out completely unless you use a pressure washer. I only use tap water and pressure to clean.

I doubt it, I'm using an mp10 to mix it. So not really any where for anything to build up.

Nope. I've mixed, according to empty boxes, 500gallons worth this year. I do have a filter sock on my mixing station to catch sediment that doesn't dissolve, but even that is fairly white still.

@Calvin FWIW, I have several boxes of a batch from around the time this thread was started. I too am getting white stuff floating on the surface. The numbers of the big 3 are all over the place too. Alk & Mag low, Cal high.

I mix big batches, generally a box at a time. Never had these issues with LA salt. But it's been impossible to find in volume.

Wondering what your end results were.
