Fritz zyme 9 vs microbacter7

So I ran out of microbacter7 and some one said to use fritz zyme 9
So I did ....then I realized it made nitrate not lower it .....how much more screwed will my algae problem that was just starting ...about 5 days in be

Both include cycling bacteria. MicroBacter 7 also includes some heterotrophs and anaerobs.


Neither "produce" nitrate. The whole point of cycling is to convert ammonia to nitrate to nitrate (of which is the least toxic).


From what it sounds like, you should get fritz 409 or microbacter clean.


However, nitrogen rarely seems to be a limiting factor for algae. Algae growth appears to be limited by predation as well as competition. Corals contain algae, and any take with corals should be able to grow algae. High levels of phosphate may aid algae, but whether it's high phosphate or a lack of things using a lot of phosphate is uncertain.

What means of nutrient export are you using? skimmer? fuge? ATS? other?

Yes it made nitrate from ammonia in your tank. That means you're cycled! Congrats you can get fish!

You don't need to buy more starter bacteria if you're making nitrates; you're all set.

If you put in a dead shrimp, take it out, or, if you're adding ammonia, stop.

Do a big water change if your nitrates/phosphates are bothering you or just let it roll and get a lot of coral in there fast to soak it all up.
