I have increasing amounts of cyano in my tank. I've continued my normal water changes, but have been vacuuming it up as I pull water out.
I won some 460 last Spring and am contemplating using it to see how it helps with cyano.
My next water change is this weekend, so I'm think I ng of adding the 460 tonight. The directions say to turn off the protein skimmer for 48 hours. Should I also take out the filter socks? @FRITZ

I'm not familiar with that product, but I know with other cyano treatments I would keep the protein skimmer on to ensure proper aeration. I think the thought process behind this is that a lot of cyano dying off uses up the available oxygen or perhaps the treatment itself causes a loss of available oxygen? Note, though, many skimmers will go crazy when chemicals are added, so you can run your skimmer but allow it to overflow back into the sump. I can't see any draw back to proceeding in this manner versus turning the skimmer completely off.

I think Fritzzyme 460 is a bacteria that out-competes the cyano. So if you leave the skimmer on it pulls the 460 out of the system. I could add an airstone to the DT.

They want as much of the bacteria to enter the water and sink and coat the surfaces of rock glass etc.
In our tanks , the amount of flow we use keeps a lot of bacteria in Constant suspension. But the natural state of the bacteria is to coat surfaces.

Your probably fine tonkeep the skimmer on if you feel like it and do repeated doses , Or you can turn it off.
Depends on how big the skimmer is I suppose.

While it helps to have competition do the cyano , there are def other factors that should be considered as well.
