Anyone have any ideas why my frog spawn looks like crap? It's in a fairly mild flow part of the tank at the bottom epoxied yo a small rock so it doesn't get sandy. It just doesn't get the nice long polyps with all the little "eggs" on them, none are all short and stumpy. It seems to be getting a little better but very slowly, is that pretty common? Everything else does great, i have a massive colony of duncans, all my acros grow like mad. Levels are all spot on, 0 n, 0 p, dkh 10, cal 440, mag 1400.

Mine looked like that right after the lights come on. Is there anything near them it could have touched?

Was near my condy but i moved it a while ago, now just a few zoos near by.

Condylactis sp. are aggressive.
Do you have any leathers (Sarcophyton, Sinularia, Capnella, etc.)? Leathers exude terpines that will really upset frogspawn and all other Euphyllids. (Especially if they are directly in contact or downstream of a pump or powerhead!)

I have found my frogspawns and hammers like ambient light from my halides. I have a six foot tank with a 400w on each end and no light in the middle. They are being blasted with flow but arent really bothered by it, If i put them too close to the halide they look sickly. Try putting them under an overhang and I bet they perk up. My buddy has a 300g reef with three halides on one end and the last 2 and a half feet dont have a light over them. His euphylia's are at the top of the rock work and barley get any light, but they are all the size of basketballs or bigger and fully extended, thats what gave me the idea to just give them ambient light in the middle of my tank, that and favia's my Alveopora and others love the lower lighting. Hope it helps or at least give you a place to start.

flow also plays a part.. if i have my pumps on reef crest the tentacles extend alot but on short pulse they're about 1/2 the length..

actually its how its flowing.. reef crest is more of linear flow and short pulse is well a pulse of water flow.. both moves the water about the same its just a different way.

Well here is how it looks. It's in a linear flow area and it's pretty low in the tank and of to the side. Not sure where else i could move out too. It's not like out doesn't grow because it had new heads all over and the old heads split a lot.

Thats a torch not a frogspawn. They look similar except the torch doesnt have the bumps commin off the main tentacles all the way down. Give it space when he gets happy those things will have tentacles as long or longer than your condy, and they will rock stuff. I got nailed by one of these as well. Had a big open cut on my middle finger and he got me just right in there. Felt it all the way to my elbow and it didnt tickle.

No, it is a frog spawn. It did used to look good back in the day, but that was under different lights, equipment, all sorts of conditions.

It's not a torch coral, never looked like one. I've had it for like 2 years, used to look great. Again, not a torch coral.

It's not really downstream from my green finger, but it is about 4 inches away, but the flow goes from the fs to the gfl.

So i desired him with my duncans. The spawn isn't "poofing" out like in the other pic now. Closed up a bit more but seems to be stretching it's tentacles out a bit. Now it's not quite a close to a leather, slightly higher flow and lighting. See what happens, not a lot of places i can move it to.
