Hey all I have been having problems with my corals for two weeks now. I changed water and did not temp water before adding. It stressed my corals most of them shunk up immediately. its been two weeks since. button polyps fine, mushrooms shrunk alot but still alive, sun coral did fine but having problems now, acan I am pretty sure is lost, and my frogspawn was alright. they have been extremely sensitive and I havent seen any of them back to full healthy size since. yesterday I added a seaweed clip for my tank and immediately after I noticed all my buttons retracted and my hammer coral shurnk and started spewing brown slime and my frog spawns were retracted too. I didnt mess around in the tank and the sea weed clip was on the opposite end of the tank. I noticed when I did the water change the hammers and frogspawn both released a white and brown slime. they have partially recovered but as I said before pretty sensitive. what is up with this? how long until they will recover? anything I can do to help them?

What salt are you using?
Do you wash your hands and lower arms prior to putting them in the tank?
Are you attempting to match basic water chemistry such as SG, Alk, Ca when doing a water change?
How often do you do a water change?

I have done two water changes since I got the tank. The tank came from a previous owner. and was well established. I am new to saltwater so I am still working my way thought this. I did not wash my arm before entering the tank but I had showered roughly an hour before. I did not match basic chemistry you listed. the second water change I got the water up to temp and everything was fine that time. no corals retracted. The brand of salt I used is Red sea coral pro salt.

sorry forgot to upload photos. here is my frog spawn. other photo is sun coral mushrooms and hammer all in one. mushrooms did not shrink when I put my arm in they shrunk when I did the first water change and have not regain origianl size

I have since bought 3 or 4 new frags and they all have been fully extended and looking really healthy since. they have been in for the second water change. They didnt bat an eye when I entered my arm either

I did match the salinity when doing a water change

Coral react sometimes when you put your arms or hands in, it could just be the residue of proteins or oils. Typically this resolves in a couple hours. I always wash my hands and lower arm before I put them in the tank.

Are you topping off the tank with fresh water between water changes.

Huge learning curve with this hobby and you jumped right in so expect some ups and downs. :-)

I have not topped off with any freshwater. Should I be? I definitely had some evap water over one week. Didnt affect my salinity much and everything else was low I was getting some nitrate and a lil phosphate after one week but I was feeding a little heavy trying to get some skittish fish to feed.
