I would like to get a Frogfish but have a few - ok maybe lots of questions. I have a 40 gallon tank. The smallest fish I have in the tank is a tiny 6 line wrasse and I have a 3 inch diamond goby.

So my first ? is would he eat any of those fish?

Do they only eat live food or can you get them to eat frozen?

Anything else would be awesome and thank you very much

Don't know a thing about them but, @eatbreakfast might, let's see if he's around.

They can be trained to eat frozen, but it takes work and feeding live foods until they take frozen.

Frogfish are patient ambush predators and are capable of eating fish slightly larger than themselves.

ok here we go....... So I look on live aqauaria for fish when I want to see what will fit in my tank. I also ask my guy at the fish store which is also a friend and has helped me set up my tank. He has a 125 at his home.

So on like aquaria it says a marine betta should be in a 50 gallon tank. My friend says you can have a small one and have him tell he gets a bigger but not full grown and then you will have to take him back. your thoughts?

A full grown marine betta can live the entirety of it's life in a a 40 breeder. The footprint is more than adequate. Marine bettas do not have a large bioload for the size fish that they are. They also are not terribly active.

Whew cause its my favorite fish. Let me go over with you what I have so far and tell me your thoughts about compatabilty and if I am maxed out or could put another - im a fish guy

Being maxed out is difficult for me to determine, each tank varies due to filtration, flow, feeding habits, foods being offered, live rock, etc. But if your water chemistry is good and consistent then you should be able to add more.

I have never had an issue with marine bettas and diamond gobies. Starry blennies will defend their favorite spots, but not present any other major issues.

I have experienced aggression issues with both redstripe hogs and sixline wrasses. Both of the Genera of these fish can be feisty.

Man thanks so much. How can I get a hold of you if I have more questions later?

I check the reef fish discussion forum a few times a day. I get alerts for [HASHTAG]#eatbreakfast[/HASHTAG], or you can pm me.

I love frogfish but I am afraid he will eat your 6 line wrasse. They will eat any fish about as long as themselves. Frogfish were made to eat live food and as Eatbreakfast correctly said, they can "sometimes" be trained to eat frozen food. I feed them live grass shrimp that I collect. I also sometimes feed them guppies but only after I inject cod liver oil into the guppies. Yes, I know, I am weird, but it works.

I had a frog fish years ago he was in my refugium, I would certainly keep him alone, slow but when they strike so fast, you would add him to your tank and slowly lose all your other fish, mine loved ghost shrimp and big ones my local fish store would keep the big ones on the side for me. Even alone they are the coolest fish you wouldn't need anything else. The marine beta is my favorite too, never had one maybe after my 8 year old clowns kick the bucket I'll get one, and yes folks I know clowns can live 20 years, but I didn't 8 years ago. They are so aggressive :/ now. Angry angry fish
