any idea why my frogspawn does this? I've had it over a month
No other coral does it. Gyre sists way above the coral and Kessils are at 5-10 whites max and intensity at 5% always . I have 2 smaller frogspawns and 1 torch coral.

Mine do it based on time of day or sometimes fish or crab or my hand sets them off. As long as they do open up you should be fine. I had some that wouldn't open as much as others so I just moved them until they looked happy.

I sort of figured that, but I'm also worried that no matter how I adjust my Kessils they might be too strong. The guy I bought them from had some cheap led set up, but the corals in his tank looked amazing. Here's what it looked like in his.
His tank is in the bottom mine is on top. You can see the difference between the size of the frogspawn when he had it and then mine. It's been a month since I got them from him.

Mine do that when the flow is higher than they like and at night. I also use Kessils but mine are on for 11 hours per day they ramp up to 60% color and 100% intensity on Max for probably 6 hours a day. I also have a two bulb T5 fixture that is on for the 6 hours the kessils are at max. Mine sits about half way up in the tank.

what the heck??
That's crazy that you can do that with that much lighting . Not sure what it is. Mine don't run all day. They run for about 8+ hours . Here's another pic to show how more they close towards end of the day.

I just turned up the gyre 2 speeds just to see how the coral would react, and immediately I noticed zooxanthallae coming out from it. I turned the speed back down to where I had it.

Could be...
My tank is only 3 months old though
And even though I have not tested calcium and alkalinity I doubt my tank is already depleted from it or in need for dosing of any kind. I did have higher nitrates in the 30-40 range.

I'd test the calcium, mag and alk to make sure everything is in balance and maybe increase the volume of your water changes to get the nitrates down.

Will do....
What test kit do you recommend for those parameters???

Got any brown algaes or slime ? Some LPS really get angry. My guess is toxins released from the algae. Running some carbon ( or changing it out if you already run carbon ) can perk it right back up.

My tank is only about four months in, and I'm not really sure but I would say no brown algae. My blue lights are always on pretty much, so I really can't tell. How would you suggest I add In The carbon? My water is been looks pretty cloudy lately.
