Hello reefers,

Have you guys ever experience frog spawn coral just shedding from the skeleton of the coral ? while other frogspawn colonies in the tank perfectly fine. Not even seeing any brown jelly nor is this coral being blasted with powerhead or being stung.

Tank: Waterbox 20
Light: Radion G3 running at 22%
Water Parameters:

AlK 8.4 dkh fluctuates between 8.4 and 8.6 (Hanna checker)
Calcium: 473ppm (Hanna checker)
Salinity 35ppt
Phosphate 0.11ppm (Hanna checker)
Magnesium 1300ppm (Redsea)
Nitrate 4ppm (Redsea)
Temp: 77

Weekly water change 2 Gallon ( Salt Blue bucket redsea)

Working on slowly bringing down the calcium to 430 by stop dosing cal.

Good day Reefers,

I thought I would give an update as to what is happening in the Waterbox 20 Nano, Frogspawn and hammer corals are dying still regardless of dips and fragging. I presume this is hopeless now. I have no clue what else to do. I did a water test ( ICP), only thing came back was Calcium at 390ppm.

I had an issue like that once. In my situation, 3/4 of all my frogspawn and hammers died off unexpectedly. Some survived and even a couple small heads on some of the mostly deceased colonies. I never was able to nail down what caused it. I couldn’t dip any since they were attached and never saw brown slime or any parasites. I hope you have better luck than I did and figure it out.

Thanks guys, I am hoping too! At this point it looks like am going to loose all of them. I re test my tank still nothing surprising except for my calcium being 390ppm

Not all ICP tests are equal...

That being said, have you checked for stray voltage?

Magnets sometimes leach and other metals from clamps can as well.

Do you have black sand? That stuff is magnetic and leaches metals. I didn't beleive it until I stuck a magnet in my tank on the sand and it picked it up.

The other thing would be a swing in parameters.

I among having this issue over a year now. I have lost so many and recently lost almost two colonies. No one knows why if your parameters are fine. I suspected that my cleaner shrimp had something to do with it but I can’t be sure and can’t get that sucker out.

My one frogspawn had one head retracted the other night in my home tank. Checked it out at night and found a flatworm on the coral that seemed to be messing with it. I’m sure you’ve been looking at it incessantly tho and would’ve noticed a parasite if it was that. Just another thought tho.

It almost sounds bacterial. How is it doing now? Maybe try a UV sterilizer if that is an option for you. How long were the corals in your tank? How old is the tank? Did you feed?
