Thinking of adding frogspawn to my tank. I'm still a coral neophyte and have been trying to stay with easy care corals. Right now I have a green star polyp, pom pom xenia, yellow zoa and green mushroom, which are doing well. I know frogspawn is generally consider moderate care level. Any opinions about difficulty. Also placement?

A frogspawn can thrive in the lower third part of the tank where the flow is not too strong. With that being said, I don't find them difficult but if your tank is new, it can be hit or miss. They can tolerate higher nutrients. You can try it out and try to find a spot where it will remain. I find that these corals don't fair well when they are moved about the tank. Also, consider controlling your parameters if you are going to add corals.

Tank has been up since January. Parameters are excellent right now (Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate hovers close to 0). Thank you for your input. Think I will give it a go.

They say pretty easy but I never have luck. They always die on me. Torches and hammers I do fine with frogspawn just melts away for me.

It is supposed to be a lower light medium flow coral. You probably want a bit of nitrate as pretty much all lps like to have some nitrates in the water.

You do need some nutrients in the water. Try to keep your N03 at 5-10 and P04 at . 02. They will do much better with some N03 and P04.

I also feed my frogspawn some ground up pellets delivered via Turkey baster ... once or twice per week.

Will do. My xenia has been healthy but not growing like crazy, which I have heard may be due to absence of nutrients.

I Have one in my BioCube 32 and it was the first I put in it. It has been doing great. It was put into the tank 2 weeks after set up, but I do set the tank up with wet rock and establish water. In my BioCube it is on the top of my rock and it loves the light that it gets up there. BioCube isn't known to putting out very high par but can hold its own. once or twice a week I add Amino Acid to help all my coral grow and keep good health and that is all I have to do with it. I think you will do Great with it.

Added the frogspawn and so far it seems to be doing great! Seems exuberant and happy. I do have a follow-up question, that is a bit off topic but perhaps related. I have a green star polyp that has been very exuberant since I added it around 3 months ago. Has always been fully out during the day. For the last 3-4 days it has only barely appeared (just green tips here and there). No change in parameters. Flow hasn't changed. The frogspawn is about 6-7 inches away. . .is there any chance this is playing a role (i know the concern for sweepers). I have also read that star polyps will sometimes do this for no reason. Any thoughts?

My GSP does that every once in a while for no apparent reason. Then it will open back up and be fine.
