Hey guys, i got a couple of new corals earlier this week. We got a kenya tree and a finger leather coral. I Bayer dipped both of them and just a few flatworms and that's all that was on it. My lfs gave it to me from their display. The corals are doing great but i have a frogspawn that's no longer happy. It was fully extended up until the new corals came in. I have candy canes, Duncan's, star polyps, blasto, and acans. Nothing else seems to be affected but the frogspawn. What should i be looking for. Parameters are spot on. What else could it be?

Tell me about your parameters.
What kind of fish you have?
How long ago it closed up?
Do you have a clear close up pic of it?

Leathers will shed their skin, it can irritate other corals if it gets on them. I am kinda dealing with something similar as well. My elegance coral was very happy until I got a couple leathers a few weeks ago, now its in rough shape. Guess it could be chemical warfare as well.

I haven't seen any shedding but it seems like once the kenya tree got happy the frogspawn started to get unhappy

What are you doing about it? What can i do?

Any peppermint shrimp in your display? I've had peppermint shrimp nearly destroy euphyllia.
Nope but i do have a coral banded shrimp. I have a magnificent foxface, yellow eyed kole tang, starry blenny, flame Angel and 2 black extreme misbar clowns.

Not much I can do, elegance is epoxied down. Another thing to look for is vermid snails on the hard skeleton part. Their webs will cause the coral to stay shriveled up, I have had that happen with euphylia

Will that help with getting that purple color on my rocks?

That purple color is nothing more than coralline algae.
Which only grows in your system if you have a present of ALK and CAL.
I never like it as it's competing with my corals.
Preferred to have my corals (SPS) consuming the ALK, CAL and MAG dosed by the CaRx.
I keep my ALK level below the 8 as my coralline won't grow as crazy

I hate to say it, but ditch the Kenya Tree before it takes off and starts reproducing.

Current AND future problems solved. You are welcome. ;)

It's very likely the Torch is reacting to the Leather IMO.

Do you skim and run activated carbon by any chance?
