So frog spawn or clam here

I'm leaning towards a wall type frog spawn since they need less light

But iv always wanted a clam

Would love to have both in here but the frog spawn in this size tank only place I can safely put it is down so the rock block it from killing

Also what's the best looking blue montipora digitata leaning towards the German blue one but how do they really look irl vs pics

A vivid purple cap will be going where the green zoas currently are and the large empty shelf is where the blue digi will go

Thoughts

Problems I may run into with one vs the other

+1 on ^. Unrelated, your red monti cap looks good, it’s literally doing what it wants back there. Never had much luck with those which sucks since they’re “easy”
Thank you

That guy was about 1/4 of the way from the bottom untill about 2 weeks ago

it has already acclimated and is growing again it was a half dollar size a year ago and iv broken a bunch off of it cleaning the tank opps

Ya they are sposed to be easy first monties iv had and ya it's definitely doing what it wants lol

I'm letting the sps take over the softys and the tank will eventually be lps sos and shrooms with a gorgonian and clove polyps on the back wall

On a side note anyone know what the white stuff is that montipora capricornis excreted in the middle of the night saw it last night with white little tenticak things never seen them before they looked like some sort of feeder

Frogspawn is easier yes but I'm not worried about easy honestly

I like the looks of the clam but I like the flowing of the frog spawn

Anyone know if a frog spawn will harm a clam I know they kill just about everything else but anyone have first hand experience with a clam and frogspawn together cuz that would look cool

Everything iv read says that the food I'm already feeding the sps will be good for a clam and I already use wayyyyyyy to much lol so not worried about feeding it

Can clams be bare bottom do they need a rock or sand do they care

I know nothing about clams other then iv wanted one for 12 years but have never felt confident enoff untill now

I have had the german blue digi.
It grew like a weed.
I still have a frogspawn in my frag system and it has hosted a clown for 6 years now. I keep it away from other corals.
Never kept clams so no comment thier.
Here is my blue digi and frogspawn. The digi looks purple but it really blue as its just a cell pic without the macro lens. Frogspawn was 20+ heads but I broke it moving it to the back so I would not get bit by the clown. Its 2 pieces now.

Will harm nothing
Clams like Dersa can go on sand, maxi and crocea on the rockwork.
Dersa and Crocea not very light demanding.
Easy to keep in stable waters.

In general terms, I would agree with the others and vote Frogspawn since they don't "suck as bad at living" as clams.

I use that term because it's probably the best way I've heard clams and other baffling corals described. Clams have a tendency to up and die for no known reason. And I'm not referring to beginner or yellow belt hobbyists. I've heard this from well known / "professional" aquarists like Richard Ross (I got that phrase from him" and clam lovers like Jake Adams.

But meanwhile, plenty of people keep clams super long term just fine.

Your tank looks good and mature so I'd say get the one that has you most excited.

But since you said you know nothing about clams, definitely read up on them. There's a lot to learn about them and they're easy to find good info on using the Google. Stick with the best practices and good luck!

So one like this but on a small island of rock for it to attach to would that be feasible definitely need one that will go on rock as I have no sand nor do I want it back lol

I would like a small island in the open spot I posted to have a clam up higher and a frog spawn down lower if that's possible

This type even stays relative small which is perfect

Just gotta read up more but wanted an honest opinion on idea from someone that knows somthing about clams irl
