Frogspawn Problem

Noticed today that half of my frogspawn was shriveled up. When I looked closer there is a small white fleshy spot on the side where it's tentacles are retracted. Is this bacterial infection? Should I use the following Iodide to dip it?

Didn't want to take a chance of a contagious bacterial infection. Dipping with a Coral RX/Iodide mix. Then super gluing the wound. Small hole in its flesh.

Hey there! How is your coral doing? I’m not positive what you’ve got going on but maybe someone else will have an idea. It almost looks like a new head was trying to grow in the first photos.

Not to great. Looks like the wound is going further up the base of the coral. Decided to put it back and wait a little longer for doing anything more drastic. Maybe it's just retracting due to me messing with it. ‍

It will retract from you touching it yes. Was today the first day you noticed it retracting? They will also do this when they make new heads, I’ve noticed. You will also damage it if you touch it too roughly. Their flesh is easily damaged by their skeleton.

Yes I just noticed it today. It was a puffy white piece of flesh about the size of half a pea. All the tentacles on the side of the puffy flesh were retracted. Before today this coral has been in my tank for a month or so and doing great. I have not introduced any corals since and all other corals doing just fine.

I wouldn’t mess to much with it my FS will at times close up after a big sh1t or if it’s just irritated. I don’t have much flow for my euphylia’s just enough to sway them slightly so if you have quiet a bit of flow at him that could be a reason but if your parameters are good then I would just leave it see where it goes.

I am thinking it is just a new head forming then. Sometimes they put out little “buds” around the base of the bigger heads. They will be tiny at first, and you usually don’t notice them until the tentacles start to peek out through the flesh. It looks like to me that is what is in your first photos. They look like miniature versions of the tentacles peeking out.

I would leave it alone for now and see how it does over the next couple of days. If it was happy where you had it until today, put it back there. If it was a new head then you haven’t really done too much harm, and the coral will be fine. Keep us updated.

If that was the case I just super glued the new head shut!

But honestly I doubt that was the case as the fleshy white stuff was withering away.

Do you have any shrimp or inverts in your tank ?

I would suspect an invert could be possibly bothering it. Wouldn’t rule that out. I really don’t know what could be going on with your FS

I was kind of leaning towards that thinking as well. Just weird as you would think something would attack the polyps rather than the skeleton base.

Once a somethings gets a taste of it it’ll go back I would watch closely and see if there is anything picking at it over night or during day. I’ve had a shrimp eat almost an entire head of my branch hammer while back

When I came home from work today it was completely melted. Went ahead and removed it as it seems hopeless at this point. Must have been some kind of serious infection. All other corals looking ok this far.
